Who are we...
Wind Farm Developments ("WFD") is a special purpose company formed to originate, develop, project manage, finance and commission, utility scale wind farm developments on high wind speed, complex terrain wind farm sites, in Australia and New Zealand. The principals involved with WFD have been involved in the wind industry since starting in New Zealand in 1996, and were responsible for the development, construction, project management, financing, commissioning and operations & maintenance of the Southern Hemispheres largest wind farm at the time, the Tararua Wind Farm ("TWF").
WFD in addition to being involved with stage 1 of the TWF project which included installation of 48 Vestas V47 660kW wind turbines on lattice towers completed in the last quarter of 1999, successfully obtained the necessary permits and regulatory approvals to develop stage 2 of the TWF Project. Stage 2 of the TWF wind farm included the addition of a further 55 V47 660kW wind turbines. Finally a stage 3 of 33 Vestas V90 3.0MW turbines was added by TrustPower in 2007.
WFD has been active in Australia since 2000 and has been involved with the origination, development and project management of a number of wind farm sites in South Australia and Victoria. Ongoing investigation of a number of sites is continuing which are in various stages of evaluation and development. Investigations are primarily focused in Victoria, NSW and South Australia.
WFD has been involved in the further identification of potential development sites in New Zealand for its own account and in conjunction with other investors, including potential developments in the mid and lower North Island regions. In view of the over supply situation in the New Zealand electricity market and market power of the gentailers, most efforts are now focused in Australia. Hence the rename of the company to Wind Farm Developments (Australia) Ltd ("WFD").
